Half of British adults don't use a condon with a new partner

Half of British adults don't use a condon with a new partnerThe National AIDS Trust has released a new survey that found 49% of British people do not always use a condom with a new sexual partner.

It is calling on the government to allow adverts for condoms to be aired before the 9pm watershed.

NAT also wants condom use to become "an essential part of comprehensive, compulsory sex and relationships education in all schools."

Deborah Jack, Chief Executive of the National AIDS Trust, said: "In National Condom Week the British public need a wake-up call on condom use. Too many people don’t know the basic facts on how condoms prevent a sexually transmitted infection such as HIV. Too many people are inconsistent in how they use condoms and too many people give up on condoms in a relationship without a health check-up, thus possibly harming their health or that of their sexual partner.

Pioneering London Teacher Celebrates Lesbian, Gay History

Pioneering London Teacher Celebrates Lesbian, Gay HistoryA London teacher who has pioneered Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) History Month at her school over the past three years has just published an account of how she has developed the celebrations.

Although Section 28, which aimed to prevent local authorities from ‘promoting homosexuality’, was repealed in 2004, many teachers still find it difficult to broach the subject of homosexuality in the classroom. Others feel helpless to challenge homophobic behaviour.

Elly Barnes is not one of those teachers.

The openly gay music teacher and ‘head of year’ teaches at Stoke Newington School, a non-selective, state school, specializing in Arts, Maths, and Science.

For the past three years, thanks to Ms. Barnes’ remarkable energy and vision, the school has been celebrating LGBT History Month by integrating it into the curriculum.

Hundreds Walk 10K for Equality

Hundreds Walk 10K for EqualityStonewall's fifth Equality Walk in Brighton saw a turn out of over 300 supporters on Sunday 4th May.

Celebrity supporters included Amy Lamé and Dicky and Dolly, (ex - Big Brother stars Richard and Lea, now hosts of Gaydar Radio), who cheered walkers on and hosted the post-walk party at Legends.

The 10k sponsored walk around Brighton, generously sponsored by American Express, was opened by the Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Carol Theobald. The route, set by the Brighton-based lesbian and gay sports group BLAGSS, took walkers along the sea-front, through Brighton's gay village and ended with a prize-giving ceremony for the top fundraisers.

The walk raised £32,000 towards Stonewall's campaign to ensure anti-gay hate crimes are reported with more confidence, and eventually stamped out altogether.
