Cornwall Pride - 23rd August 2008Cornwall’s first ever Cornwall Pride Festival took its first steps to becoming a reality this week, when on Monday 11th the Pride 2008 Committee met for the first time. The committee will be responsible for planning and carrying out the diversity festival this year.

Saturday 23rd August was chosen as the date for the event and preparations are already under way to make sure it is an event that all people in Cornwall can be proud of – from whatever background or lifestyle.
After the first meeting, the newly-elected Chairman Christian Diamant said “The idea of Pride is to be an all inclusive celebration of diversity in Cornwall. Everyone will be welcome to participate in the parade through Truro and then onto celebrations afterwards.”

The Pride event will be similar to other events throughout the country and should be an opportunity for local business to benefit from a significant group of people from across the country.

Christian Diamant went on to say “At its most basic what Cornwall Pride is celebrating is the fact that Cornwall is a better place because not everyone is white, not everyone is straight and that Cornwall would be a worse place if we were all the same! Hopefully, the event will be enjoyable for both locals and holiday makers who are visiting our County.”
